About Me

Hello, I’m Mary—known to many as Mrs. Shepherd. Art has been a lifelong companion, shaping my path as both a practicing artist and an educator. I began teaching through my local recreation department as a teenager, supported myself through college by teaching art, and have continued to share creativity within my community ever since.

In 2000, I opened Community Creations Studio, a space rooted in imagination and connection. After a pause to pursue a second master’s degree in educational leadership, I’m grateful to return to teaching in this beloved studio. Now semi-retired from public school education, I’m devoting my time to what brings me the greatest joy—guiding artists of all ages in a calm, welcoming, and inspiring environment.

Over the years, many young artists have grown alongside me, exploring drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and assembly. For those unable to attend studio classes, I volunteer in public spaces such as our local library and a shelter. I’m also a visiting artist at a local camp, where I share classic art lessons with inner-city children—experiences that continue to spark creativity, confidence, and joy.

I invite you to step into a creative space where imagination is nurtured and expression unfolds naturally. Join me for an opportunity to create, reflect, and discover what’s possible when art is allowed to breathe.
